Why contactless

Clock in without touching a thing

Face recognition is the only clocking method that needs no contact at all. Staff simply look at the terminal, which makes it ideal for sites where touching a shared surface is a problem, or where hands are full or gloved. Like all our biometric terminals, it stores an encrypted template, never a photo. See how we handle biometric data under UK GDPR.

Hygienic by design

No shared surface to touch, which suits food production, healthcare, and clinical environments where hygiene matters.

Works with gloves on

Staff wearing gloves or carrying tools can clock in hands-free, with no need to remove anything to scan a finger or tap a card.

A glance is all it takes

Clocking in is as quick as looking at the terminal, with no card to find or fob to carry and lose.

For the best results, face terminals are mounted out of direct sunlight, and staff can re-enrol easily if their appearance changes over time. Not sure if face or fingerprint suits your site? Compare with fingerprint or talk to us.

One face, clocking and access control

The same facial scan that records attendance can also control who comes through your doors, so you manage time and access from one system, with nothing for staff to carry.

For time and attendance

Advanced facial recognition for accurate attendance

Automatic data logging of every clocking

Accurate, reliable matching every time

For access control

Real-time access monitoring of who is on site

Customisable access permissions by person or area

Works alongside our access control systems

The benefits of facial identification

Control

Limit access to sensitive and secure locations, tied to the individual rather than a card anyone could use.

Convenience

Nothing to carry or process. No keys, fobs, or cards to issue, replace, or collect back in when staff leave.

Speed

Clocking in is as quick as a glance at the terminal, keeping people moving at busy times.

Precision

Accurate tracking and logging of entry and exit times, giving you a true picture of hours worked.

Sustainability

Paper and plastic free, with no cards to print or timesheets to file.

Ready for payroll

Accurate hours feed straight into payroll, with direct Sage integration and exports for Pegasus and QuickBooks.

Where face recognition works best

Contactless clocking suits some workplaces more than others. These are the sectors where a glance to clock in makes the biggest difference.

Food production and manufacturing

No shared surface to touch keeps clocking hygienic on the factory floor, and staff in gloves can clock in without removing them.

Healthcare and clinical settings

Touch-free clocking supports infection control where hygiene is critical, with no terminal to clean between users.

Warehousing and logistics

Staff carrying loads or wearing gloves clock in hands-free, and a quick glance keeps shift changes moving.

Construction and site work

Useful where hands are full or dirty and a fingerprint reader is less practical, tying every clocking to the right worker on site.

Hospitality

Fast, contactless clocking at busy service times, with nothing for staff to carry between front and back of house.

Retail

A simple glance to clock in across multiple stores, with no cards to issue, lose, or replace for seasonal staff.

Face recognition clocking FAQs

How does face recognition clocking work?

At enrolment, the terminal maps the unique features of an employee’s face and stores them as an encrypted template. Each time they clock in, the live scan is matched to that template. If it matches, the clocking is recorded against that person, so every hour is tied to who actually worked it.

Does the system store a photo of my face?

No. No facial image is kept. The terminal stores only an encrypted mathematical template, which cannot be reverse engineered back into a photo. Biometric data is special category data under UK GDPR, and storing templates rather than images is central to handling it responsibly.

Does it still work if someone changes their appearance?

Minor day-to-day changes are handled fine. If an employee’s appearance changes significantly over time, they can be re-enrolled in moments so matching stays accurate. Terminals also support card, fob, and PIN clocking as a backup.

Do staff have to use face recognition, or is there an alternative?

There is an alternative. The ICO advises giving employees a genuine choice, and Computime terminals also support card, fob, and PIN clocking, so staff who prefer not to use a facial scan can still clock in.

If an employee leaves, is their facial data deleted?

Yes. When an employee leaves, their template is removed from both the terminal and the cloud, with a record of the deletion, supporting the UK GDPR right to erasure so you are not left holding data for people who no longer work for you.

Is face recognition better than fingerprint?

Neither is better overall, they suit different sites. Face recognition is fully contactless, which suits hygiene-sensitive workplaces and staff wearing gloves. Fingerprint is fast and works well in direct sunlight. Compare fingerprint clocking or talk to us about which fits your team.
